Night Light:
The Aesthetics of Time by Events in Space
1987 to Present

The night time landscape, urban or rural, is a theater where the play that inspires me is acted out by light. My photographs document its production while moving lights perform as its actors. Celestial marks by stars and planets serve to reference “us” in our capacity to respond and enjoy, once an image is found and formed in silver.

I have made pictures in 17 states over the last 20 years. Utah is my favorite. The West is the preferred location because of the varied topography, low humidity that keeps the air free of haze, and nights that are often clear of clouds.
